Ornamental type

In traditional typesetting, the use of ornamental type was one of the principal ways to enhance type-displays. Beautifully turned initials came into being long before the invention of printing, and the beautiful letters used in old, handwritten books, still serve as models for present-day ornamental type. In this book, thousands of examples are given, from the early days of printing up to the 1930s.
